Dakry Journal · International Story

From Messinia to Scandinavia. A New Market, the Same Dakry Identity.

Dakry Olive’s participation in Eco Living Scandinavia and the Nordic Organic Food Fair marked an important early chapter in the international development of the company, bringing Greek flavour, contemporary aesthetics and the character of Messinia to the Scandinavian market.

The Scandinavian Chapter

Greek origin, presented with intention

International exhibitions are more than places to display products. They are moments when a brand must communicate its entire identity in a few square metres.

At Eco Living Scandinavia and the Nordic Organic Food Fair 2023, Dakry Olive presented its Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Greek honey and specialty products to buyers, professionals and prospective partners from the Scandinavian market.

Both founders of Dakry Olive were present, representing two complementary sides of the same company and the same vision.

The Exhibition

Meeting the Scandinavian market

The exhibition created a direct meeting point between Dakry and an international audience interested in premium food, responsible sourcing, provenance and contemporary Mediterranean products.

For a growing Greek company, that physical presence was particularly valuable. Products could be tasted, discussed and understood beyond a catalogue or digital screen.

Conversations with buyers and professionals also provided immediate feedback about the way Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil, honey and specialty foods were perceived outside their country of origin.

The People Behind Dakry

One House. Two Founders. One Vision.

Co Founder · CEO

Ioannis Kryfos

As Co Founder and CEO of Dakry Olive, Ioannis Kryfos represented the commercial and executive direction of the company during the exhibition. He also spoke with FOODReporter about Dakry’s export development, international ambitions, market conditions and the challenges facing the olive oil sector.

Co Founder · Brand Manager · Artistic Director

Mariangela Drakonaki

As Co Founder, Brand Manager and Artistic Director of Dakry Olive, Mariangela Drakonaki represented the creative and visual identity of the company. Her role encompasses brand direction, the artistic curation of Dakry products, packaging, presentation and the wider visual language through which the company expresses itself.

Two different areas of responsibility. One shared idea of what Dakry should become.

The first commercial opening in Sweden

Following the Scandinavian exhibition, Dakry Olive secured its first commercial openings in the Swedish market through agreements with local businesses.

The development represented an important milestone during an early period of international growth and demonstrated the value of meeting potential partners directly in the markets the company wanted to understand.

International expansion for Dakry has always meant more than placing products abroad. It means carrying their origin, story and presentation with them.

A conversation with FOODReporter

During the exhibition, Ioannis Kryfos gave an interview to FOODReporter in his capacity as CEO of Dakry Olive.

The conversation focused on the company’s export development, its international customer base, the sharp increase in olive oil prices and the opportunities and challenges surrounding the introduction of premium Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil to foreign markets.

The interview also addressed Dakry’s ambitions beyond its existing export activity and the importance of markets such as Scandinavia to the company’s international strategy.

Explaining the difference behind the bottle

One of the subjects discussed was the challenge of communicating the difference between authentic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and less expensive oil blends that may be more familiar to consumers in certain international markets.

For Dakry, education is closely linked to export development. Olive variety, origin, harvesting, extraction, freshness and sensory character all influence the identity of an Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Communicating those differences allows a premium Greek product to be understood not only through price, but through provenance and quality.

Brand & Business

The product and the way it is presented belong to the same story.

Dakry’s international identity is built through complementary areas of expertise.

As CEO, Ioannis Kryfos leads the company’s executive, commercial and export direction. As Brand Manager and Artistic Director, Mariangela Drakonaki develops and protects the visual identity surrounding the company and its products.

Packaging, product presentation, imagery, gifting concepts and the broader artistic language are not treated as decoration around the product. They form part of the product experience itself.

This combination of Greek provenance, commercial ambition and contemporary aesthetic direction continues to shape Dakry as it evolves from a young family business into an international Mediterranean house.
